Food and Nutrition

The Food and Nutrition initiative is a collaborative initiative between Pacific Islands Development Forum and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation aimed to improve food security, reduce poverty, and support economic growth by supplying fresh agricultural produce from Fiji to Northern Pacific countries.

Through the Pacific Fresh Airlink initiative, PIDF is facilitating the export of fresh agricultural produce from Fijian farmers to regional markets, thereby creating new income opportunities for local producers while improving access to nutritious food within Pacific communities.

This collaborative partnership, particularly with Northern Pacific countries, aims to reduce poverty, support sustainable economic growth, and strengthen regional cooperation through agriculture and trade. A key focus of the initiative is direct support for farmers in Fiji, especially in Tailevu and Ra provinces, by improving production quality, post-harvest handling, and market readiness. This will ultimately enhance rural livelihoods, increase export capacity, and promote long-term agricultural sustainability across the region.

The initiative also sought to reduce NCD-related health issues by improving access to fresh, nutritious food across the region.
